How To Stay Just Friends?

Many people don’t believe that a friendship between people of the opposite sex is possible. Many would argue that this is only possible in TV shows like “Sex And The City” where a woman’s best friend is a man (although he happens to be gay).

However, it is actually possible for men and women to maintain a completely innocent relationship based on friendship.

How? It is simple and easy if both of you are sure that no physical attraction exists between you.

So as to keep a relationship platonic, it is important to not give the relationship a sexual overtone, even accidentally. This means that you should avoid ambiguous words with sexual connotations and actions which may be interpreted as sexual in any context. Even when you hug them, keep it completely innocent.

Follow your feelings and believe in your friendship. You will have to live with the fact that a lot of people will comment on your friendship and claim that there is something more to it then meets the eye. Don’t listen to them. Define your relationship with your friend and stick to your own rules. Who cares what other people say!

Even though you are friends, be careful not to treat your male friend as a girlfriend. Doing so will make them feel emasculated which can lead to an abrupt end of your friendship. Hanging out, going out on the town or talking are fine. Leave the shopping and analysis of every guy you meet for your girlfriends.

Always keep in mind though that we have sexual instincts in our genes. Over time, as your relationship develops and you become very close, you and your male friend may develop an emotional bond that can easily lead to sexual attraction. Set boundaries early, but if the time comes to cross them, be prepared to cross them, in any direction.
