Moving In Together – The Big Step

Moving in with your partner is a big step in life. If you are in a long-term relationship and are thinking about moving in together than you should reference the following checklist. If you agree with most of the following statements, call the movers!

Financial situation

When you are in love it’s easy to forget about finances. That’s why you should sit down with your partner and talk about your financial situation, especially about your regular incomes, your credit cards and loans.

Money habits

Having different money habits can lead to serious problems. Discuss your spending habits at length and come up with a spending plan before you make any moving in decisions. In case things are tight, you should sit down with your partner and go over bank statements, credit card statements and bills to see where things are going wrong!

Always together

If you spend more than four nights together each week that will give you a better sense of what it will be like to share a place. If you feel more comfortable sleeping alone and having your own space let’s be honest, you’re not ready to move in together yet.

Dating for more than six months

Let’s face it, in the beginning of a relationship we all tend to be blind to our partner’s imperfections. That’s why it’s very important to wait until you get to know each other better. After six months, you will not only get to know your partner better but you’ll make decisions with realistic expectations.

Sharing fundamental values

It’s very important for you to sit down with your partner and have a conversation about the future and whether you share fundamental ideas about the kind of life you want to share.

If you move in together be prepared to make some sacrifices – after all, relationships are all about compromise. Moving in together can be a great experience which both of you can enjoy tremendously.

However, no matter how great your relationship is, you should always be prepared for what the future brings. That’s why it’s a good idea to keep some extra savings in case your relationship does not work out and you need to move out. Also, remember to keep all the receipts of purchases of large items, to reduce chances of disputes if you separate.
